Perfect day for Pecco Bagnaia in Assen. Here, on his favorite circuit, where he has already won twice in Grands Prix over the last two years, he has never let Jorge Martin worry him. In qualifying, first, with two big times achieved in just two tries thanks to a totally offbeat strategy. Once the track record was in his pocket, he went on to win the Sprint by leading every lap, from the first to the last turn. Clearly, he reminds the entire field why his Desmosedici GP24 is awarded the number 1.
This is the first time that Bagnaia has won two Sprints in a row. The three-time world champion is very happy, obviously. « We have worked very well, since yesterday morning. To some extent this work started at the start of the championship, where I was not fully comfortable with the machine. But in these last Sprints, I said that we were in the game, but that there were mitigating circumstances to explain the poor performance. At Mugello and here we had none of these problems, and we won both races » he said at the end of this magnificent day.

He's probably referring to Jerez's clash with Brad Binder and then Barcelona's crash on the final lap on their way to a Sprint victory. All that seems to be behind him. « We are very competitive. During the break, I focused on physical fitness because you always have to try to improve. » he added. Clearly, if he still has room for improvement, the opponents have reason to worry.
Everyone says it: in Assen, Bagnaia is impregnable, or almost. He himself agrees with this observation. « We have something extra here. I love the circuit, but it is not easy, especially the last chicane, undoubtedly the place where the bike seems heaviest to us. It is one of the most beautiful complexes in the world, but very physical » he concluded.
