For the first time since Great Britain, Johann zarco qualified directly for Q2 after the Practice session in the Netherlands. While the Frenchman crashed, he was able to get used to the different tire compounds provided by Michelin, including the famous medium that many have crashed on. The game is far from over, but Johann is confident for the future, seeing a lot of potential.
Zarco snatched tenth place – the final qualifying position – in the final moments of Practice. He had no more room for error. “Glad to have gone and got this time. I told myself that I had to give it my all in the last lap, concentrating as much as possible.I knew what to do. I'm glad it worked. We had trouble warming up the tire, it cooled down on the track. There is also something missing in the brakingWe need to work harder to control the bike better." he declared to our microphones.

The tires react quite strangely in Assen Cathedral, especially the medium, which has nothing to do with last year's. « The fall at the start of the Practice is due to the front mediumIt wasn't warm enough to put on the hard, and we had to keep the softs. Everyone was stuck with that tire. I don't understand why, it seems like there's a compound that doesn't take well. It was better to have a worn soft than a medium. I think everyone will be on double soft for the Sprint. And if the temperatures rise, it will be tough."

This makes the challenge even more complicated than it is, especially since Honda has progressed enormously since 2024. « We cannot rely on last year's data.. We start from scratch every time. You have to get used to it quickly, and time flies. We work well on electronics, but chassis level, we are still missing something" he concluded.
