Next week, the World Championship will race for the last time on the Sachsenring circuit: the contract was not renewed and a new circuit is being sought.
Where will the German Grand Prix take place in 2019? The question is definitively asked, given that the ADAC (Allgemeine Deutsche Automobil-Club, or the German Automobile Club) has confirmed that no agreement has been reached and that therefore the Sachsenring circuit will no longer be the location chosen to host the German meeting next season.
At the end of May, ADAC Monaco announced the termination of the contract with Sachsenring-Rennstrecken-Management GmbH (SRM). Since then, there have been numerous discussions to find an agreement to maintain the Sachsenring as a MotoGP host circuit, but this has not led to concrete results. ADAC is now looking for a new track that would allow Germany to maintain its place in the MotoGP calendar.
“Since the end of the contract, we have made every effort to maintain the German Motorcycle Grand Prix at the Sachsenring,” said an ADAC spokesperson. “We therefore discussed with the State Chancellery and SRM in order to prepare a meeting and present to them a proposal in accordance with the previous agreement, which would guarantee the MotoGP race at the Sachsenring for this season inclusive, i.e. until 'at the end of the contract. »
However, no agreement was reached, as ADAC stated: "The SRM did not accept the proposal and, in agreement with Dorna, we are intensifying discussions with other circuits, in order to guarantee that MotoGP will also have a meeting in Germany. » An alternative would be the Nürburgring, which would however have to be renovated to host the world championship.
The contract between MotoGP promoter Dorna and ADAC will, as mentioned, expire at the end of 2018. Preparations are therefore being made for the last time at the Sachsenring on the occasion of the Grand Prix which will take place from 13 to 15 July.
