We knew it since Saturday, but this was only made official on Sunday: following Cal Crutchlow's injury at Phillip Island, the LCR Honda Castrol team confirmed that Stefan Bradl, HRC test driver, will replace the Briton at the Malaysian Grand Prix at Sepang .

Cal Crutchlow, who traveled to Australia in fine form after his second place at Motegi, suffered a fracture to his right ankle and distal tibia after a heavy fall at the famous Australian circuit last Friday, and will not be able to take part in the GP from Malaysia next week.

Stefan bradl (HRC test driver): “First of all, I want to say that it is very unfortunate for Cal because he was in good form after the podium in Japan and the last races. I hope he recovers quickly. It's a good opportunity for me, it's a nice return (to the LCR team) because we spent three years together and there are a lot of people I know in the team. I would also like to thank HRC and Lucio for responding so quickly and professionally to this situation. We'll see what we can do, and I'm looking forward to seeing the guys again and working with them. »

Lucio Cecchinello (LCR Team Director): “We are obviously very disappointed with Cal's crash during Friday's FP2 session, and the resulting fracture of his right ankle. But it's part of the race and we have to accept it even if we don't like it. Cal's orthopedic problem will be resolved in a few weeks. The whole team wishes him a very good recovery and, in the meantime, we are going to Malaysia for the penultimate round of the season with another former LCR driver. Stefan Bradl raced in LCR colors for three years in the premier class (2012, 2013 and 2014) and we all know his remarkable skills and undeniable talent. We are happy to be together in the box again.”
