George Martin

Jorge Martin made a costly mistake at the Misano Grand Prix, which allowed Pecco Bagnaia to reduce the gap in the MotoGP standings to just seven points. Opting to pit to change his Ducati for a bike with wet weather tyres after a few drops of rain, Martin was hoping to anticipate a change in the weather conditions. Unfortunately, the rain quickly stopped, forcing him to pit to re-start his bike with slicks, dropping him to fifteenth. He only scored one point, missing out on an opportunity to maintain a more comfortable gap to Bagnaia.

This error does not, however, overshadow the possibility for George Martin to realize his dream of becoming world champion MotoGP. With several races still to come, he still has every chance of winning the title, despite the disaster of Misano. This would also be a nice way to conclude his period with Ducati and the team First Pramac Racing, which will pass under the colors of Yamaha from next season.

The Spanish driver was deeply disappointed not to be selected by Ducati to join the official team alongside bagnaia. He had initially received positive signals from Gigi Dall'Igna et Davide Tardozzi, but the final decision never came and he learned the news unexpectedly.

Jorge Martin remains a wounded man after being dropped by Ducati in favour of Marc Marquez

In an interview with La Repubblica, Martin expressed his frustration: “ what I liked the most hurt, is that I was calm after the calls from Dall'Igna and Tardozzi. But nothing official was done, and no one warned me. » Despite the disappointment, he said he felt " released " and ready to move forward.

Team First Pramac Racing, also disappointed with the decision of Ducati, has chosen to end a long collaboration with the brand and sign with Yamaha from 2025. Paolo Campinoti, the team owner, told TNT Sports that Martin now had an additional motivation: " He is really committed and motivated to prove that Ducati made the wrong decision in choosing Marquez »

Despite Misano's mistake, the goals of Jorge Martin remain unchanged, and he remains one of the favorites for the 2024 MotoGP world championship title. But with this stated intention of leaving his Ducati with the world title to bring the number 1 to his new employer Aprilia, the Martinator and the staff of Borgo Panigale will inevitably find themselves at a crossroads at some point in this crazy season...
