Paolo Ciabatti explains what Ducati's plans were for 2021 regarding the MotoGP transfer market. They wanted to bet on Márquez, Quartararo or Viñales.

Le MotoGP transfer market started even before the action of the drivers on the track. Yamaha and Honda were the first to move. Their maneuvers left the rest of the teams without the possibility of signing Marc Marquez, Maverick Vinales and Fabio Quartararo for the 2021 season. One of the teams that admitted to watching these three drivers was Ducati, who hoped to sign one of them and strike a blow at the MotoGP table.

With the delayed start of the premier class, MotoGP teams have more time to develop their motorcycles by not sealing the engines. But they also have more time to speak to the media. Paolo ciabatti spoke with Sky Sports to publicize Ducati's plans regarding signings for the 2021 season.

Paolo Ciabatti: “At the end of 2019, we identified three interesting drivers: Márquez, Viñales and Quartararo. "Maverick seemed the most interested, we spoke to his manager, so Yamaha moved quickly and didn't wait for Valentino Rossi's decision."

Look in our boxes

After the maneuvers of Honda and Yamaha, Ducati has no choice but to look to their riders to consider the 2021 season, as reported by Corsedimoto.

Ciabatti: « It is true that Dovi will be 34 years old in March, but he is in great physical and psychological shape. We expect to Danilo the determination that will allow him to express himself to the levels he can reach. Next, we have at Pramac Jack who must confirm himself at the highest level. He is a young rider despite being a MotoGP veteran. »

At Ducati they are very aware of the riders who are part of the Pramac team, due to their youth, and consider that Pecco Bagnaia could be a solution for the future.

Ciabatti: « We think he is a great talent, but last year he did not show a good adaptation to the Desmosedici which is never easy for a rookie. This year he also has a GP20 and we hope he does better… We have great confidence in Bagnaia, he is young and he demonstrated in Moto2 that he could be a winner. This is the year where we put him in the best conditions so that he shows us what we expect of him. »

Johann Zarco the desired

The Italian brand does not exclude the option of making monter in the official Ducati team in 2021 Johann zarco, who this season will race with the Avintia team, but has a great relationship with them.

Ciabatti: « We also have Johann Zarco who, although he is on a 2019 motorcycle, has all our support , like the other Avintia team driver, Tito Rabat. We hope to see if Johann will be able to be competitive, then we will have an overview of the riders who will race with Ducati this year. Then we leave a door open to evaluate other considerations. But the stronger pilots without contract for 2021 are already at Ducati now »

However, at Ducati they prefer to take their time and evaluate all options before signing their riders for the 2021 season.

Ciabatti: « We and the drivers want to wait for the first four or five races, so I think that in Jerez we will have an image of the situation to know how to move forward. Andrea Dovizioso is also at a stage in his career and life where he wants to see how he feels in the first few races before talking about the future. For now, we are the best alternative for the pilots and vice versa, so we take a little time because We are not in a hurry »
