Rossi Mugello behind closed doors

The MotoGP season will finally get underway at Jerez this weekend. From Wednesday, a test will take place to get everyone back into the swing of things. Then it will be the Spanish Grand Prix. The site will not stop there because a week later the Andalusian Grand Prix will take place there. An originality which will be the particularity of this calendar which will also offer a double blow on the Red Bull Ring and in Misano. In the latter case, Italy could be consoled for being orphaned by Mugello... A circuit which will nevertheless be visited for the first time by Formula 1...

Le Mugello is a track appreciated by Grand Prix motorcycle riders, even if, in MotoGP, there is real concern in terms of security regarding the bump finishing the long straight at the end of which is the first turn... It was in 1976 that the motorcycle Grands Prix discovered this 5,2 kilometer circuit. It has been an integral part of the world championship calendar since 1994. This means that for the first time in around 25 years there will be no paddock tour in Tuscany.

Blame it on Coronavirus and behind closed doors who had the skin of other legends like Assen ? Not entirely… The Mugello belongs to Ferrari and was built in the mid-1970s. There has never been a Formula 1 race. Only testing takes place there. Ferrari recently tested there privately. But this year, the Scuderia has the opportunity to celebrate its 1th Grand Prix. And the course will have passed at Mugello.

Carmelo Ezpeleta: “I spoke to Ferrari”

It's like that. If motorcycles are deprived of Mugello, Formula 1 will discover it for the first time in their history... But this will happen in the greatest political harmony between the two major categories of motor sports. The boss of the promoter Dorna explains: “ we spoke to the people in charge of the circuit and they told us that they were in a delicate situation" , said Carmelo Ezpeleta at Motorsport-Total.com.

« Mugello does not receive as much economic support as Misano with San Marino in comparison. Formula 1 wants to go there for several reasons. For Ferrari, it's a special occasion to drive on this track."

« It will also be Ferrari's 1th Grand Prix. I spoke to Ferrari because they were worried that if we didn't go to Mugello it would be a problem. But there is no problem. We understand the situation. » MotoGP would therefore have been a good prince… And too bad for Ducati...
