On this Friday June 25, 2021, Marc Marquez answered questions from journalists from the Assen circuit, at the end of the first day of the Dutch Grand Prix.

We went to listen (via teleconferencing software) to the words of the Spanish pilot, victim of a big highside during FP2, from which he fortunately recovered without problem. The Repsol Honda driver will thus be able to get back to work tomorrow, and continue the debugging of his new chassis.

As usual, we report here the words of Marc Márquez without the slightest formatting.

Marc, you were the victim of an accident that was unusual to say the least during FP2. Can you tell us more about the circumstances of this event?

" All First of all, I must say that I recovered from this accident unscathed. I have to say that here in Assen I feel in better shape than I expected, and in fact during FP1 I was quite “easy”. Then during FP2 I told myself that it was time to take a step forward. It's true that I attacked in certain portions of the circuit, but in this particular corner I was frankly not beyond the limit, for the simple reason that I had a driver in front of me and that I followed its trajectory. »

" We can't afford to have this kind of accident, the electronics are supposed to be there to prevent this kind of fall. But the fact is that only Honda riders are victims of this kind of highside: This was the case of Álex [Márquez] and Pol [Espargaró] in Portimão, and my crash in Jerez last year was very similar to that -this. We need to understand what happened, and I've already looked at the data to see if I did something wrong, but I have to say that I was riding exactly the same as I was in the previous rounds. »

" We can't afford to have this kind of accident »

"But In the end the TC [Traction Control] did not have the desired effect. This is something we need to address in the future, starting this year. We need something that makes us feel more secure, because if that's not the case it's impossible to have the confidence to be fast again. »

What is your opinion on your new chassis?

" Concerning the chassis I am very happy with the work that has been accomplished by the HRC, because it is perhaps the first element for which I see real potential for the future. This will of course have to be validated over the whole weekend but also on another circuit, but I still had good feelings. I'm happy with it, I tried several riding styles to get a good understanding of things, but we'll have to confirm all of this in the future. »

Following your fall, are you worried about the rest of the weekend?

" I have of course felt that it was a big accident, but I came out without any pain, whether in the knee, the foot, or even the elbow. This will not pose a problem for our performance over the rest of the weekend. »

Are you going to continue using the new chassis for the rest of the weekend?

"The Chassis held up in the crash, so we actually planned to continue working with this one. We will continue the comparisons with each other. Of course the ideal would be to have all the bikes with the same equipment from Saturday, but we have to try things and progress, and for that we have to continue the comparisons between the two. Our goal is not performance or getting the best possible result this weekend, but more about improving the bike for the future. »
