About Manuel Pecino / Motosan.es

Charles Pernat, a recognized expert in the world of motorcycling, shared his insightful perspective in our interview on a number of hot topics from the world of motorcycle racing. In this conversation, Pernat gave his thoughts on the challenges, contracts and team dynamics in the exciting world of MotoGP and SBK. His comments shed light on crucial issues affecting riders and teams, providing a unique perspective on top-level motorcycle sport.

The motorcycling world has seen three exciting Grands Prix in a row…
“We are a little tired, but these three Grands Prix were really good. In MotoGP, Martin is strong, he rides the bike like a bike, not like a motorcycle. He is in a good period. I think he could be even higher in the rankings if he hadn't made the big mistake with the soft tire. After all, when you are in a moment like this and you are very strong, it is difficult to lose points. »

Carlo Pernat shared his views on Pecco Bagnaia and Jorge Martin…
“Martin is not like Bagnaia because he made two mistakes which did not allow him to score points, but he is very strong. I think the Sprint race can be important because it's only a few points, but they are very important. The points from the Sprint race will make the difference in the championship, in my opinion. »

"Pecco suffered because he didn't have a partner to develop the bike."

Pernat revealed what Bagnaia's main mistake in his career was...
“The big problem is at Barcelona where he made this mistake. He was very lucky not to suffer any fractures. However, this fall cost him some points. It affected him psychologically and somewhat physically. I think Pecco is very strong mentally, and Martin is more aggressive right now and getting better. It is clear that these points lead will be very important.”

Carlo emphasizes the importance of having a teammate…
“We must not forget that Pecco was alone because Bastianini lost eight Grands Prix. He suffered because he didn't have a teammate to help him develop this bike. Martin found a motorbike which for the moment is like a bicycle, he doesn't touch anything. It doesn't do any extra development, and in my opinion, that's better. It's a bit like Bastianini last year, who had the bike that he didn't touch and who didn't have any problems. »

Pernat recounted the situation of the first Ducati team with the sincerity that characterizes him…
“Bastianini had a two-year contract with Ducati. The first year with the official Lenovo team and the option for the second year which expired on August 30. The decision to stay with the factory team or go to Pramac was up to Ducati. On August 30, Ducati renewed the option and made it official in writing that Bastianini would be part of the Lenovo team in 2024. As a manager, we are waiting for an official legal document confirming that a letter with the contract has been sent. Next season, in 2024, he will therefore be part of the Lenovo team.”

“If Lenovo changes its mind, I will have problems with my sponsors.”

It is possible that, if Martin wins the MotoGP World Championship, he will be promoted to the official team…
“Maybe Lenovo or Ducati will make a different decision. But they will have to come see me and provide me with an official document. If Ducati changes its mind, I will have problems with my sponsors, because my contracts with them are based on media exposure. If you don't go to the official team, you will have less visibility. So there could be a legal problem. They should come to me at the end of November to tell me that they have changed their mind and I will say no because I have an official document. »

To conclude, Carlo Pernat expressed the differences between the official team and the satellite team…
“It's better to be at Pramac because you don't have as much pressure and it's a much more relaxed environment, young and technically very strong, with someone like Pinotti who knows how to keep an environment cool. As far as I'm concerned, if I were a driver, I would prefer to be in the Pramac team. The bike is the same. »
