Being part of a large project with great ambitions and certain means opens up opportunities. The structure Petronas SIC demonstrates once again that it is not quite a private team like any other, with this latest project revealed by the project manager Razlan Razali : send your troops to conquer the round of the Endurance championship which will take place at Sepang.
The Petronas SIC team plans to send its MotoGP and Moto2 riders to the first 8-hour endurance race which will take place on the unmissable Malaysian circuit. Teammates in MotoGP Franco Morbidelli et fabio quartararo, should therefore make their debut in the World Endurance Championship at the end of this year.
The boss Razlan Razali confirmed on crash.net that plans were in place to send its MotoGP riders, as well as local Moto2 star, Khairul Idham Pawi, at the 8 Hours of Sepang scheduled for December 13 to 15.
« With our recent launch of the Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing team, we plan to enter our two MotoGP riders and our only Malaysian Moto2 rider, Khairul Idham Pawi, in the first round of the 8 Hours of Sepang EWC" , said Razali. " I am confident that we will be a strong attraction on this occasion that will attract Malaysian motorsport fans and fans from all over the world to the Sepang circuit and in Malaysia"
« With F1 leaving Malaysia, we have been tasked with looking at other world-class events to include in our annual events calendar. Thanks to fan voting and additional feasibility study, the FIM EWC and FIA WTCR were the first two events selected " , has explained Razali.
« This special collaboration with Eurosport Events will make the race exclusive and one-of-a-kind, creating history for Malaysia as the first to host two World Championships on the same weekend. Both races will take place at sunset and the checkered flag will be raised under the new lights of the SIC Circuit"
The 8 Hours of Sepang will be the second race on the 2019-2020 FIM EWC calendar and will constitute a qualifying event for the 8 Suzuka 2020 Hours.
