The traditional Christmas party at Casa Nolan is an opportunity to look back on the season and talk about the next one. Paolo Ianieri, reporter for La Gazzetta dello Sport, spoke at length with Danilo Petrucci, one of the brand's ambassadors. Your box has only changed by a few meters, from Pramac to Ducati, but the difference is much greater.
I've never tried Lorenzo's bike. I had my Pramac as well as another with updates and a different chassis which only has positive sides. Changing motorbikes is therefore not a revolution but there will be progress in certain areas. For me the biggest difference is at the team level. At every meeting now, I have ten people to talk to.
Which bike will you find at Sepang?
I've no idea. Gigi (Dall'Igna, general manager, editor's note) doesn't talk much. We tell him things and he nods. However, he was happy and smiled more in four days of testing than in the last four years.
Pramac has had Iannone, you and now Bagnaia in its ranks.
Pecco is already more at the forefront than I was when I arrived. He will be able to achieve good results this year. He immediately felt at ease and already seemed to know how to ride a MotoGP. It was clean, precise… That surprised me. I fear he will become an opponent within a few races.
Lorenzo also attacked hard.
He amazed me. I didn't expect it to be so fast straight away. Obviously, Ducati served as a bit of a school for him, he became even stronger. This is one more problem. Honda will be the team to beat.
Will this be another Ducati-Honda year?
There will certainly be the Suzuki. And also the Yamaha. We are down to 8 bikes and we have to add Morbidelli… We will have some nice surprises in 2019.
Where are you going on vacation?
If I can, I'll go skiing for a few days. I have already started my winter preparation. We understood that the body has difficulty distinguishing day from night and to wake up the metabolism I have to get up early in the morning to train.
What would you like as a gift for Christmas?
I already had the Ducati under the tree. I just want to go home to my grandparents and stay with my family.
