The Repsol Honda rider is the man of all records, most of them obtained at his young age. But the years go by, and new pilots arrive, as if to remind us that the years also pass on him. This was the case with the Assen podium.

Marc Márquez has marked and continues to mark the history of the World Championship by breaking record after record thanks to his talent and precocity. Already in 125cc, he made history by becoming the youngest Spanish rider to reach a world podium at just 15 years and 126 days old. But the records really arrived with his entry into MotoGP.

Among all his exploits, he was the youngest driver in history to reach the podium of the premier class, to take a pole position, to win a race and, above all, to become world champion at the age of 20 and 266 days. Last year, he won his sixth world title at just 24 years and 254 days, beating Valentino Rossi at 25 years and 244 days. Having shaken up the big names and having established himself as the new rising star of this sport, we would almost have forgotten that at twenty-five years old, he is no longer considered the “young kid” in the category, and that Others arrived and have continued to arrive since.

Less quick than him to establish themselves, they nonetheless remain younger. And for the first time since his arrival in MotoGP, Marc Márquez was the oldest rider on the podium at the Assen Grand Prix last weekend! For five years, we have been used to seeing him as the youngest on the podium, alongside Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo, Dani Pedrosa and Andrea Dovizioso and this time the situation has been reversed.

The average age of the Assen podium was 23 years and 292 days, making it the youngest since Assen in 2016 where Jack Miller won ahead of Marc Márquez and Scott Redding. The average age then was 22 years and 277 days.

With their respective ages of 22 and 23, Álex Rins and Maverick Viñales made us realize that time also passes for a driver like Marc Márquez and that most of his records are now behind him, even if he is only 25 years old !
