Aleix Espargaró

It is Aleix Espargaró who is beginning to be eaten away by doubt who takes stock of his Algarve Grand Prix, the penultimate round of the season. Since Austin, he is no longer as confident on his RS-GP with which he now falls more often than not. In Portimao, he fell again in the race. And if he takes responsibility for this accident, he still sends a message to Aprilia…

At Aprilia, we seem to be losing momentum at the end of the campaign. In what was MotoGP's second visit to Portimao, after a first visit last April, the two RS-GPs failed to bring home a single point. Maverick Vinales finished in 16th place just behind Honda test rider Stefan bradl while his teammate Aleix Espargaró suffered a bitter zero in this Algarve Grand Prix. For the Catalan of 32 years, the race ended in the first third of the competition.

« I'm fine, the accident was all my fault" , has explained Aleix Espargaro, who was nevertheless tenth on the first lap before experiencing his misfortune at turn 1. “ My start was good. Pol and Lecuona were passed. And when they came back on the line, I lost a lot of places in front of turn 3 ».

Aleix Espargaró: “ I was very angry«

A situation that irritated him, to say the least: “ I was very angry, I overtook Marini then Valentino. Then I fought with Morbidelli. I risked a little too much with him before turn 1. I overtook him in the last part of the straight, so I was very fast. But I didn't want to cut him off in the compression at such a high speed, and I gave him space. My trajectory was then, of course, much closer to turn 1, then I lost the front wheel »

He adds : " I don't know why I'm having problems now. I'm very frustrated. I crashed in warm-up and also in the race. We have problems with the cornering behavior of the bike. I no longer have the speed I had in the first part of the season. It's suddenly hard to be really fast. Maverick also has these problems. My eighth place in the championship is also threatened. Now we look at Valencia. » For a finale which will take place this weekend.
