At the end of the first three free practice sessions of the MotoGP Algarve Grand Prix on the Portimão circuit, Francis Bagnaia, fabio quartararo, Joan mir, Jack Miller, Alex Marquez, Franco Morbidelli, alex rins, Espargaro Pol, Luca marini et George Martin have obtained their direct passage into Q2, the final stage of qualification.
They have just been joined by Johann zarco et Iker Lecuona, who were drafted in Q1.
Separated only by a thousandth of a second at the end of free practice, Francis Bagnaia et fabio quartararo have not let up one step since they entered the Algarve track. Who will come out on top after 15 minutes of this thrilling duel?
The weather forecast predicted a dry and sunny weekend, which is still confirmed today with immaculate skies and temperatures of 19° in the air and 27° on the asphalt of the Portuguese track.

Iker Lecuona, drafted in Q1, and the only one to use a medium rear tire, all the others logically being soft.
Joan mir and Alex Marquez register the first references but at the end of the first launched round it is George Martin which bears his name at the top of the table, in 1'39.264.

Luca marini by a minor fault at turn #14.
Mid-session, when everyone stops at their booth, the hierarchy is made up of Jack Miller, Joan Mir, Jorge Martin, Francesco Bagnaia, Pol Espargaro, Johann Marco, Franco Morbidelli, Alex Márquez, Fabio Quartararo (with his fast lap cancelled), Iker Lecuona, Alex Rins and Luca Marini.
Upon resumption, Francis Bagnaia regains the advantage over his teammate in 1'38.775 while Johann zarco moves up to fourth position.
On the next pass, the Ducati official drives home the point in 1'38.725 while fabio quartararo fails to improve on his seventh position.

In the end, it's a double for Borgo Panigale, Francesco Bagnaia obtaining in Portugal its fifth consecutive pole position and makes the old record of the circuit of fabio quartararo !
