It was an unpleasant surprise that Alex Rins awaited at the bend of a poorly negotiated turn on the demanding Portimao track. This resulted in a fall from his Suzuki. The Spaniard suffered an injured right shoulder at the start of the season in Jerez. A shoulder that he thought was completely recovered. However, there is something of a doubt with the return of pain and movements that are once again complicated to do. The one who plays for the place of vice-world champion this Sunday no longer considers himself 100% and will go see Doctor Mir at the end of the Portuguese Grand Prix, to talk about a possible operation...

The enthusiasm ofAlex Rins who surfed on that of a team Suzuki in the running for the constructors' title after celebrating the drivers' title with his resident Joan mir took a hit this Friday, at Portimao. The fault was a fall in FP2 from which he got up with a crumpled right shoulder. The same one who had been manhandled after an accident during Q2 in Jerez... A fact which may have cost him the title, since he was physically diminished during the first events of the season.

« It was a small fall, but it surprised me because I hurt my shoulder a little when I fell all the weight on the right side of my arm Says Kidneys whose concern is reflected with this precision: “ I thought I was 100% cured, but I noticed a little discomfort and I dragged it a bit throughout FP2 in the right turns ", said the pilot Suzuki, who is however not worried about the level of pain he feels: “ a little physiotherapy and massage will help for Saturday ».

“I’m at 60, 70%”

However, the Catalan pilot will not wait long to assess whether he should undergo surgery or not. On Monday he will travel to Barcelona to meet the Dr Mir and will decide if it will be necessary to operate on this right shoulder during the winter holidays: “ on Sunday there will be a farewell dinner with the team and on Monday morning I will take the car to Barcelona, before returning home to Andorra. I will see Dr Mir and assess if there is really the possibility of having surgery or not, see what the risk is and decide whether it is worth it or not ».

On the percentage in which his shoulder is located, Kidneys adds that “ it is very difficult to know what percentage I am. The truth is that yesterday I would have said 100%, because I have participated in many races in which I would not know how to evaluate my suffering, because in Aragon and Valencia I could be very fast, with almost no pain. But here, after the fall, with all the weight on my shoulder, I would say I'm at 60 or 70%. It bothers me a little when it comes to raising my arm. I don't know if it's a nerve or what, I have no idea ».

Alex Rins could therefore have surgery on his right shoulder, injured at the start of the season in Jerez. He was then diagnosed with a fracture-dislocation of the right shoulder.
