Portugal

This 2022 edition of the Portuguese Grand Prix at Portimao will go down in the history of French motorcycling with this resounding double provided by Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco. The first, with a Yamaha that he is the only one able to maintain at this level, opened his victory counter this year after delivering a masterful performance, made of determination and domination. Meanwhile, his heir and compatriot Johann Zarco saved the furniture for a Ducati factory whose red color once again brought him bad luck. She also lost her championship leader in this grueling event. And all this is still shaking up the championship for us…

fabio quartararo emerges as a hero from this joust in Portimao, as part of a Portuguese Grand Prix which took place on a dry track. The Frenchman has come a long way again and shows in broad daylight an indisputable talent that we would nevertheless like to challenge him in expertise in the weaknesses of Yamaha . Once again, he put more than a second behind his Italian colleague with almost senile skepticism, who finished 11th, almost 30s behind the reigning World Champion, after 25T.

Fabio Quartararo is the fourth winner in five races contested this season and as he forced himself to collect the points he could that did not mean to smile, he has just jumped to the top of the general classification, one week before a Grand Prix from Spain to Jerez, which he particularly likes. He claims 69 units, or as many asAlex Rins on his Suzuki, but who has yet to win anything. Incidentally, the Spaniard certainly did not imagine such an outcome at the end of a race which he entered from 23rd place on the grid. His fourth final position is one of the exploits of this passage in Lusitania.

Aleix Espargaró, third in the race, is also a member of the leading trio in the general classification, just three points behind the two leading men. It keeps alive all the hopes of an Aprilia factory which is however slow to confirm it beyond this year. The big loser of this Portuguese stage is Enea Bastianini which slides from first to fourth with a passive of eight units. He will have crashed twice in this meeting and the Gresini driver will only have a few days before Jerez to recover.

Portugal: Fabio Quartararo and Johann Zarco don't give up

The top 5 of this hierarchy is closed by John Zarco, second in this memorable Grand Prix after having bravely defended his skin against Joan mir first, Jack Miller then and Aleix Espargaro Finally. It will be recalled that the first two cities did not see the finish. The Australian, in a curve, made Mir the same blow as bagnaia had made against George Martin in Qatar... Brad Binder didn't see the finish either and saw his teammate Olive tree reassemble it. Miller et bagnaia, the two Ducati officials, close the top 10. They have the same capital of 31 points, or 38 behind the leader. Pecco did well in this round: starting last, he managed to finish eighth, not without having fought hard against the Honda of Pol Espargaro.

Since we are talking about Repsol colors, we note that they do not brighten up the top 10 in the provisional general ranking. Marc Marquez rode level with his brother Alex and his teammate whom he had the greatest difficulty controlling to only get a sixth place in this race. We will end with George Martin who fell and who again lost contact with the top of the table while among the rookies, the Tech3 KTM rider Remy gardner now has three points in his bag and finds himself five lengths from a Marco Bezzecchi who did not take advantage of his excellent position on the starting grid at all with his Ducati GP21.
