The press conference at the end of the Grand Prix from Portugal MotoGP 2025 met in Portimão Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia Racing), Alex Marquez (BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP) and Peter Acosta (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) for their post-race debriefing.
Peter Acosta finished third, marking his 10th MotoGP podium and his fifth of the season. He now has one fewer podium finish than his teammate Brad Binder, who is the KTM rider with the most podium finishes in MotoGP: 11.
He maintains his fifth place in the MotoGP World Championship, but is now three points behind Francesco Bagnaia...
As usual, we report here in its entirety his words, without the slightest formatting, even if it is translated from English.
🎤 So Pedro, it's your turn now, so close, and yet so far. Was the plan to manage first and then attack, or did everything simply fall into place at the end?
Tell us about your race…
Pedro Acosta: "Well, obviously, we know that we usually suffer in these kinds of races, those where we start with less grip than our competitors.
But all in all, I think we managed as best we could. We're back on the podium, which is exactly what we wanted after the summer break: to get back to that consistency in the top 5, and I think we've achieved that. We're racing well.
Sure, Marco and Alex were much faster than me today, from the beginning to the middle of the race, then I came back, but for Marco it was already too late.
For this reason, we should be happy, because at the beginning of the season we were in much more difficulty compared to today.
🎤 And obviously, as I said, compared to the first half of the season, you made a big leap forward in the second half.
I believe you are now just out of reach of third place, but only two points behind Pecco, if I'm not mistaken.
If, at the beginning of the season, you had been told that you would finish ahead of or just behind Pecco, would you have been satisfied?
And from a global perspective, is the championship position something that really matters to you, or has the main objective been to overcome the difficult start and regain that constant progress to come back stronger next year?
Pedro Acosta: “I mean, it’s true that if we had started the season better, we could have fought for more. But as I’ve already said, Alex was very strong all year, and Marco, once they found something with Aprilia, they took a step forward and became among the best in the championship again.”
For this reason, it's true that it's not something we're really focusing on right now. As I said, we need to keep moving forward and focus on our consistency, because it seems we're now much closer to consistently being on the podium.
"It's true that Marc is currently absent from the track, but we're having very good races, and to achieve that, we need to try and stay there and be among the best drivers in the championship."
🎤 After the race, you said you thanked Dani because you had exchanged messages with him on WhatsApp, and he had advised you to approach the race differently, or to see it from another angle.
Can you explain what you meant by that?
Pedro Acosta: "Well, we didn't talk about anything really serious, you know. But it's only my second season in MotoGP, and those guys have a lot more experience than me."
Sometimes that's what I miss the most, not just in MotoGP, but in managing a championship in general.
Dani is a master at this. He has competed in a huge number of races, he was one of the best in the 2-stroke era, and he has a different way of seeing things.
So there you have it, I'm very happy to have him by my side. It's true that I rely on him more now than last year, but in any case, I'm extremely happy to be able to count on him, and very grateful for everything he does for me.
