It's the big day of the Portuguese Grand Prix this Sunday, a day which takes us back to the races of old after an unprecedented Saturday. Except that this race is able to present a first official classification of the 2023 World Championship, with Pecco Bagnaia in the lead thanks to his victory at the end of the very first Sprint event in the history of MotoGP. The Ducati official will therefore forever be the first in this circumstance. After 12 laps he was ahead of Jorge Martin and Marc Marquez. Brothers in arms that he will find on the first row of the starting grid on Sunday afternoon.

Marc Marquez qualified on pole for the first time since last year's Japanese Grand Prix, setting a new Portimao track record. This is the second time he has qualified on pole after going through Q1, since Thailand in 2018. It is his 64th MotoGP pole and his 92nd in what is his 233rd Grand Prix start. This is Honda's first pole position in the category at Portimao. He will aim to win his first Grand Prix since Emilia-Romagna 2021, 518 days agoโ€ฆ

Francis Bagnaia became the first Tissot Sprint winner in history and this Sunday he will aim to win a Grand Prix for the first time since Malaysia last year, which is also his most recent podium finish. With Francis Bagnaia et Jorge Martin, this is the 41st consecutive race where there is at least one driver Ducati in the top three in qualifying.

Miguel Oliveira qualified P4 after going through Q1 for what is his first Grand Prix with Aprilia. He equaled his second best qualifying result since Catalunya 2021 when he took victory. He will be aiming for a second Grand Prix victory on home soil after the 2020 Portuguese Grand Prix. He battled for the Sprint podium on Saturday before a mistake on the final lap.

Jack Miller could make MotoGP history by scoring Grand Prix victories with three different factories, having already won with Honda and Ducati. He finished P4 in the very first Sprint, 0,086s from the podium after leading for a short while.

Enea Bastianini qualified sixth, his first time qualifying in the top six since Malaysia last year when he qualified before finishing second, which is also his last podium finish. Unfortunately he fell after contact with Luca Marini during the first Sprint and he will be withdrawn due to injury.

Maverick Vinales qualified seventh. As Miller, Viรฑales could write MotoGP history by winning with three different factories, in his case adding the victory with Aprilia to victories with Suzuki and Yamaha.

Winner last year at the Portuguese Grand Prix, Fabio Quartararo qualified 11th, which is only the sixth time he has failed to qualify in the top 10 in MotoGP. The last time was in Malaysia last year, but he finished third, for his last podium to date. He will aim to win a Grand Prix for the first time since Germany last year. He scored no points in the Sprint, finishing P10 after early contact from Joan mir.

Aleix Espargarรณ fell in Q2 and qualified P12 for his worst qualifying result since qualifying 13th in Thailand last year. He finished P3 last year in Portugal for his fourth MotoGP podium in that time. It will be recalled that for this test, Pol Espargaro will be forfeited, as bastianini. Joan mir will have to go through a long time after having hooked fabio quartararo during the Sprint.
