Marc Marquez the tightrope walker is an added value that MotoGP lacks...

By force of circumstances and a humerus injury operated on three times, Marc Marquez had to withdraw from a 2020 season at the end of which he intended to become, at 28 years old, the equal of Valentino Rossi with nine titles. There remain eight for the moment, having left fallow a field of glory that the new generation hastened to occupy. It is therefore a new adversity that awaits him in 2021. At least we hope so, because for some, something is missing from the MotoGP spectacle since he is no longer there...

The 2020 season was breathtaking, delivering a solid and talented new wave World Champion in the person of Joan mir. Here is Marc Marquez aware of what awaits him to win back the pack of MotoGP. On the show side, we weren't bored last year, but according to --Neil Hodgson, former WSBK World Champion and Grand Prix driver now commentator for the British channel BT Sport, this year he missed this very strong spice whose flavor finds its source in the miraculous rescues of Marc Marquez on a motorcycle...

In an interview at Bikesportnews, he says thus: “ I just think that the championship is not the same without Marc Marquez. I know the common idea is that it's more exciting not to let him race because there are more opportunities for others to win, but I've always loved watching the fastest drivers in the world and this what Marquez can do to beat them.

He pursues : " I've been saying to some people since the end of the season, how many MotoGP riders have we seen this season save a loss from the front? I don't remember it and at least what I saw didn't look like a real save from Marquez. I've only seen Bastianini do it two or three times in Moto2 ».

For the former British driver, it is precisely the absence of the spectacular style of Marquez who is missing : " When you watch Marquez do this kind of thing on a motorcycle, no one understands how he does it. But that's the kind of thing I miss ».

With or without Marc Marquez, “MotoGP will be exciting again”

However, he is careful not to pour into the verse of a MotoGP devalued without him. Instead, he clarifies that it’s different, but still high level: “ I think MotoGP will be exciting again. The big question mark is obviously Marquez's fitness. Will he start the season? If we take everything we read as true, we would have to say that it probably won't be there, but between now and then a lot can happen. I would like him to start the season and I would like him to be fit ».

And it will need all its capabilities, in fact, in the face of competitors who have transformed themselves. Hodgson names a few to follow in 2021: “ In MotoGP it's difficult to make predictions because you don't know Marquez's situation well, and obviously he's the one to watch if he comes back and if he does so in good shape. In my opinion, five drivers will be worth watching.  Morbidely will be a man to keep an eye on. Mir also obviously. Jack Miller will also take a few steps forward, then it will also be interesting to see at what level the rookies will be. Of bastianini à Marini et Martin. He too will be strong in my opinion ».

It will be recalled that MotoGP will return to Sepang in mid-February for tests which will be interesting preliminaries to follow in view of the next campaign which we hope will be less affected by the health crisis than the previous one...
