Fourteenth in the race, 56 seconds behind the winner, the Majorcan gritted his teeth for his return to competition after a long period of absence, since his back injury suffered in Catalonia in mid-June.
For the Honda team manager, the number 99 is currently in an impasse linked to the succession of his falls and his injuries. “At the moment there is no prospect with Lorenzo” he said in a podcast from the official MotoGP website. “If we take a quick look back, we see that he arrived and immediately fell. Since then, he hasn't stopped falling, it's obvious that he never felt comfortable with the bike, he says it and we saw it. He doesn't ride the way a driver with his potential and track record would. And his last fall, which was heavy, required a lot of recovery time because of his back. »
Far in the standings even before being hit in the back, Lorenzo is not doing well with the RC213V, and it is obvious that his repeated injuries weigh in the balance of a return to the forefront. “I believe that for Jorge, it’s always a fresh start, as long as he has the desire and the motivation” he continued. “But not start again on the bike without taking risks and without understanding that it's a job in which you get hurt and that it's part of the game, it's like a boxer when he enters the ring. We will see race after race what is there and what he can do, and he will realize where he is going or not going. »
Even beyond the difficulty of getting used to his new machine, for Puig, the problem lies elsewhere: “I don't think Jorge's problem is about technique, it's more about courage and will. Everything will depend on the desire he has and the risk he wants to take. Hopefully he can get out of this situation and get back on top. We would love to see him as fast as he was with the Yamaha, that would be a dream. »
