MotoGP Qatar J2, Alex Marquez (Ducati Q2/S2): “Losing to your brother hurts a lot less”

This is his seventh consecutive second-place finish. In Qatar, Alex Marquez is still on the pace, missed out on pole position, and managed to tickle his brother Marc at the start of the sprint… but it wasn't enough. Frankly, what is happening to him is quite incredible, because the double world champion fully deserves his victory, if he has tried so hard.The problem is that history doesn't care about merit, and the best, hands down, is Marc Marquez. Alex knows this and can do nothing but try again.

Even though it's his brother in front, it must get tiring after a while. Two second places in qualifying and the sprint were rewards for Alex Marquez's efforts this Saturday in Qatar. « I tried, but Marc is fasterI even tried to copy his lines. With worn tires, he's better than me, he's better than everyone. I wish it were different, but I'm realistic. Imagine how many titles Andrea Dovizioso would have won without Marc Marquez! When you're at your best and you have a rival like Marc in front of you, there's nothing you can do about it. But losing to your brother hurts a lot less." he said for GP One shortly after arrival.

 

 

At the beginning of the Sprint, he was seen attacking his brother, but without success. Did he go all out in this attack? Alex reveals that he didn't. "I held back from attacking him. It was half committed, it was not determined.. If I really want to overtake here, I have to close the door. But the wind has changed compared to this morning, You have to be careful when doing this kind of maneuver." he declared. He was cautious, also because of his fall a little earlier in FP2.

 

 

Alex Marquez knows very well that Marc is a cut above the rest, and even has an anecdote that illustrates it. “This morning, in FP2, Marc achieved several 1'51 in a row. I went back to the box and asked if he had new tires. I was told no. Meanwhile, I couldn't do better than 1'52 et 1'53 » he confided. After reading this, one wonders if the Sunday race will be more competitive.
