Be careful, there's a shower of records in sight. This is what the future Austrian Grand Prix seems to be preparing for us, the first since 1997. The Red Bull Ring track which will be the scene of the MotoGP performance promises to be the fastest on the Grand Prix calendar. At least that’s what emerged from the two days of testing carried out by the set.
The sleuths of crash.net did their calculations and compared the best lap time reported to the development of the Austrian track. A clever equation which promises the Red Bull Ring the title of fastest circuit of the season.
Take a Iannone which covers the distance of 4.326km in 1m 23.240s at an average of 182.1km/h, all after negotiating seven right turns and three left turns, and you will have the cream of the crop in terms of speed. Austria is therefore preparing to dethrone Australia and its jewel of Phillip Island, certainly on the twelve turns, but on the 900 m straight. On the Austrian ring, we are at 626 m.
We will see all this from August 12 to 14. Still, the record in the genre is held by a certain Barry Sheene who claims an average of 220.7 km/h during a Belgian Grand Prix in 1977…
