Petronas Yamaha Sepang Racing Team (SRT) boss Datuk Razlan Razali is confident that his rider Franco Morbidelli could well be the MotoGP world champion this season.

To arrive at this conclusion, the reasoning is simple: He told the Malaysian News Agency Bernama that the goal was entirely achievable by the Italian since the rider finished second last season after accumulating 158 points in 14 races, although he struggled to get on the podium in the first races for mechanical problems independent of his driving level.

Razlan Razali: “At the beginning of last year he was not consistent due to bike problems, and also an accident during the race in Austria, which affected his performance somewhat. But after that he was more consistent than the other drivers and that's why he was able to finish second. If he doesn't face technical problems (this season), he can be world champion. »

Continuing his pragmatic reflection, Razlan Razali stated that he thought that Franco Morbidelli would then be attracted to factory teams like Ducati and Honda in 2022 if he becomes MotoGP champion this season. He stressed, however, that any team interested in obtaining the services of the current MotoGP world vice-champion in 2022 will have to pay appropriate compensation to Petronas Yamaha SRT, as the Italian rider has signed a contract with them until the end of the 2022 season.

Last year, “Franky” won the San Marino Grand Prix, the Teruel Grand Prix and the Valencia Grand Prix, in addition to reaching the podium at the Czech Grand Prix and the Portuguese Grand Prix. After two seasons alongside fabio quartararo, This year he is teaming up with his compatriot seven times MotoGP world champion, Valentino Rossi, from the Monster Energy Yamaha team.
