Remy Garner

Remy Gardner has apparently still not turned the page on his only season in MotoGP which was a dismal failure from every point of view. Technically, sportingly and humanly, the Australian has only experienced disappointments, just a few months after experiencing the supreme satisfaction of having become a Moto2 World Champion. A consecration which logically should have cemented a solid relationship with KTM. However, quite the opposite happened, as if the worm was already in the fruit. There remains this mess which raises questions about the real chances left to a rookie to make his mark in the premier category. In any case, it seems that we can count on the former teammate of Raul Fernandez – who was in the same situation as him, but who was able to escape in time towards Aprilia – to not not miss an opportunity to settle scores with the Austrian brand.

Remy gardner will have the opportunity, in 2023, to relaunch his career and rebuild his reputation in a peloton via the beautiful WSBK category on a good Yamaha . But can we move forward while always looking behind us? Because in an interview given to speedweek, he gives the impression of being frozen in this posture. We understand that he suffered in this year 2022 where we can indeed doubt whether he had his chance to assert himself in MotoGP. And certainly, this crisis has had wider consequences by calling into question the credibility of a Moto2 World Champion. However, isn't it time to move on?

The Australian is the only one to decide on the matter and apparently, he has not yet cleaned up his debts with KTM : " they broke my heart. Apparently there was no consideration for the world title I brought them » he begins. And he is convinced of one thing: “ it would have been different with a different bike ". He clarifies his thoughts thus: “Let’s take the example of Bezzecchi, whom I have always dominated in Moto2. And in MotoGP, I didn't even get close to him. He was on the podium and in the front row. If I had been sitting on a Ducati it would have been very different. I needed a different, more competitive bike ».

“If I had already taken a seat on a Ducati…” - Remy Gardner

Remy Gardner: “ many young drivers will continue to be burned like this in the future, this is the current mentality«

This failure also leads him to make more general considerations: “ in MotoGP today you have a year, maybe a year and a half or two to prove yourself » he said before warning: “ many young drivers will continue to be burned like this in the future, this is the current mentality. Unfortunately, today, MotoGP resembles Formula 1 more than ever, it all depends on the bike. Obviously the driver always has more influence than in Formula 1, Lewis Hamilton cannot win in a Williams. But Marc Marquez is the best driver of all time and he can't win at the moment either. I would say that now, in terms of results, it’s 70% the bike ».

Then Remy gardner finished : " in the past, I doubted myself, in Moto2, when I had done nothing. Last year, however, I had no doubts about myself. I felt terrible, that's for sure. Life wasn't fun and I was especially sad about the way I was treated. But I never doubted my ability to ride fast, I know I can. I have a world title which confirms it. I even had the impression of driving fast, with the package and the team ". So many qualities that he will have the opportunity to demonstrate this year in a WSBK where the bikes, the races and the mentality are different.
