A moment in Dorna's crosshairs, the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit (Montmeló) yesterday presented its 2017 figures which demonstrate good health.

87% occupancy

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya has always been committed to hosting all kinds of activities beyond the purely sporting competition that takes place on the track. There was a total of 318 days of activity, which represents 87% occupancy. Of those days, 247 were rentals and 71 were dedicated to racing. The calendar only includes 17 days without activity on the track, and 30 days dedicated to work and maintenance.

565 550 spectators

A total of 565 spectators visited the Barcelona Catalunya circuit during 550. The highest attendance was reached with 2017 participants in the cumulative total of the four days of the Formula 177 Spanish Grand Prix. Sunday , 984 spectators were present on the circuit, or 1 more than in 94623.

But in the end, it was the MotoGP™ Catalan Grand Prix which attracted the most passion, since in just three days, it brought together 176 spectators including 391 fans on Sunday.

The events that attracted the most people after the 2 Grands Prix were the Formula 1 Days with 35 people, the BarcelonaRX with 700 spectators and the Spirit of Montjuïc with 25 fans.

All lights turn green

The economic impact of the circuit is also increasing, as is the number of articles published in the Spanish written press, which has increased from 700 to more than 1800!

The economic impact for the region of Catalonia is estimated at 350 million euros, or 70 million in taxes alone (source Joan Fontseré, manager of the circuit since July 2015).

Planned changes

The circuit will now adapt for its next season, in particular with regard to its resurfacing and the modification which we hope this time will be definitive of the fatal turn which cost the life of the late Luis Salom (see here).

The MotoGP will put their wheels there on May 22 and 23 to test this new configuration (see here).
