Romano Albesiano talks about the new Aprilia MotoGP prototype. A bike that promises well, but whose alarming coronavirus has postponed its racing debut.

Aprilia was very keen to start the 2020 MotoGP season. After a year of hard work at the factory and on the track, the Noale technicians rushed to prepare the first RS-GP prototypes. A motorcycle revisited from head to toe, starting with the new 4-degree V90 engine. Massimo Rivola focused his attention on the organization of the team, Roman Albesian on the engineering part.

The objective is to get out of the lower part of the manufacturers' ranking and finally aim for the positions that count. “ The bike is completely new, starting with the engine”, explained Albesiano, “ we changed the V between the cylinders, to simplify it and have more possibilities to play with the ignition timings, and also to have greater room to maneuver on the exhaust valves. Lots of innovation. Around the engine a completely new motorcycle was born, from the point of view of the chassis part and in particular from the aerodynamics. Different departments must think the same way. When many new key people join the team, the crucial factor is integration among people and departments. This is what happened with great enthusiasm and in a positive way for everyone. And with respect for everyone, always! Especially in a championship of this level, but we have our cards to play and we think we can do better than in previous years. »

The coronavirus pandemic has forced the first MotoGP race of the year to be postponed indefinitely. The Veneto team had planned a test in Jerez for next week but had to cancel it. Spain blocked flights to and from Italy, the Jerez circuit was closed for 15 days.
