Having arrived last year as technical director, Romano Albesiano must revolutionize Honda in MotoGP. Before him, the prestigious mission had never been entrusted to a European, but the Italian, who came from Aprilia, knew he could do it. A few months later, Johann Zarco won a race, in addition to securing another podium finish. Great results, certainly, but Albesiano is more focused on the long term.

Albesiano spoke at length to the media speedweek recently, and returns to his signing with Honda. « I never thought I'd make this change. My plan was to stay a few more years and then retire., but when Honda called me, it seemed like an exciting proposition and, in many ways, a great opportunity for me too. For motorcycle enthusiasts, Honda is legendary, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to be a part of its history. Given the terms of Honda's offer, the decision was easy to make." he declared.

Adjusting to a new philosophy can be difficult, especially after accumulating so much experience in MotoGP. « The way of working, the structure and the mentality towards problems are very differentThere are many new things that I found very interesting, especially in completely new projects, like the 2027 motorcycle." he added.

He also spoke about the Japanese company's main weakness: aerodynamics. Where Ducati and then Aprilia excelled, Honda and Yamaha have long remained behind. « For a long time, aerodynamics was simply not taken into accountThe focus was solely on drag reduction and improved cooling. Today, we understand that the effects of downforce and front-end performance are essential. What happens at the rear of the motorcycle also has a major impact. » he concluded.
