The Yamaha rider finished first this Friday, and thus confirms the potential of his M1 on the Misano track for the moment.

Arrived in Misano with a good feeling after the positive test carried out on the track two weeks previously, Maverick Vinales confirmed this by finishing the first day at the top of the rankings.

“Honestly today I tried to keep the good feeling I had during the test, because we worked really well”, he explained. “It was of course very difficult because the track was very slippery today, but I managed to do some good laps, so I'm quite happy and enthusiastic. »

It must be said that with Marc Márquez and Fabio Quartararo, he was part of the trio of strong men of the day. First third in FP1, he then took the best time in FP2 and thus set himself the best time this Friday in combined times. But with four Yamahas in the top 5, it is clear that the competition from his teammate and the two Petronas riders promises to be tough tomorrow, without forgetting the reigning World Champion.

The Spanish pilot is aware of this, and therefore prefers not to get carried away: “However, there is still a lot of work to be done. It is true that with two or three other drivers we are a little above the rest of the field, but the others will reach our level, so we must continue to work and see what we can improve. »

Author of pole position two years ago, it is achievable again this year, all that remains is to choose the right tires for qualifying: “The track is particularly slippery in the first few laps, with the tires, but we will see. We've only tried the medium, and we haven't yet done a long run with the hard or soft, so we'll see more clearly tomorrow. »
