Listening to Marc Márquez at the finish of the San Marino Grand Prix, one might wonder if, for the Honda official, this stage in Misano was supposed to be that of great revenge. Against Dovizioso who had beaten him in Austria with a view to the finish, against Álex Rins who had done the same at Silverstone and against Valentino Rossi and his people in their stronghold after the exchanges on and off the track on Saturday. What is certain is that the Honda official did not shy away from his pleasure by insisting on the location of his seventh victory of the season...
Apparently it's better to avoid getting upset Marc Márquez. Faced with a fabio quartararo who was in no way a danger for his management of the championship, he had more to lose than to gain by depriving the young Frenchman of his first success in MotoGP. But he still went into battle in the last lap, effectively clearing himself of his wise intentions before the meeting, where he assured that there was no question of him trying crazy things...
Yes but there was a late Saturday afternoon and qualifying with Valentino Rossi. Who woke the beast! “ Honestly, I knew there was no need to win, because Rins was away and Dovizioso was far away. But yesterday, Saturday, I had extra motivation, extra push for the race » insisted Marc Marquez upon the arrival of the thirteenth meeting of the year.
« I tried to stay where I was and finally gave it a try. I knew Fabio was very fast in the third sector, I tried to overtake him then close all the doors. It's really nice to win in Italy and be 93 points ahead of the championship ».
He finishes : " I am happy with my victory, but the best driver was perhaps Fabio. He was in the lead for most of the race. I stayed back and only attacked on the last lap. »
At 26 years, Marc Márquez is now the fourth most successful pilot in history with 77 achievements. A score that he will undoubtedly want to further improve next weekend in Aragón.
He wouldn't be denied this time! 💪@marcmarquez93 is back on top of the podium, and moves past Mike Hailwood in the all-time first class list! 🥇#SanMarinoGP 🇸🇲 pic.twitter.com/J59MV7vh9Y
