Besides its declarations at the end of the third and final day of testing at Sepang, two things seem interesting to note about Johann Zarco.

The first is that he tried the 2018 version of Yamaha aerodynamics, which is as unexpected as it is appreciated.

“When you're on the bike, the top speed is lower but you have stability and the front grip is excellent. »

The second concerns its engine, whose performance the French driver highlighted, while everyone expected it to be the 2016 engine or, at best, the 2017.

Have you made any progress regarding the engine?

“It's hard to say about the feeling, but we can see that we gained at least 5 km/h, which is not nothing. »

But are you using a 2016, 2017 or 2018 engine?

" I am not sure. It has more power than in 2017. We need to make some adjustments to the engine. Then I can be even more competitive. »

Hervé Poncharal expected Johann to have the same engine as last year, but the presence of the 2018 wings on the M1 is already a sign that things are changing on Iwata's side...
