A native of Barcelona and grandson of the founder of Bultaco, Gibernau has experienced his share of fights in his time during 5 seasons contested in 500 cc and 3 in MotoGP. He won 6 victories in the higher category and was on the podium 9 times.

During his career he had some rather rough contacts, including one in particular with Valentino Rossi which caused a lot of noise at the time. Sete is now Dani Pedrosa's coach. He spoke on MovistarTV (taken over by tuttomotoriweb.com) believing that times and morals had evolved since the time when he ran.

“In my opinion, it was a shame, because I think Dani had the means to run a good race. Unfortunately, there was this contact with zarco and he fell.

“I've always said it's a wonderful sport, but it's so risky. All the riders risk falling off their bike and they are very brave, but I don’t consider it a contact sport.”

The Spaniard also expanded on the measures to be taken: “ We must avoid contact and the Race Direction must avoid it by making it clear that we are not more courageous because we touch another driver.

“The risks are already sufficient for the pilots. Contact must be punished. If drivers know that contact involves penalties, they will be more attentive ».

But how can we define a contact, its impact, its consequences?

Sete Gibernau concluded: “ We need fairly clear regulations. We need to sit down and change everything to improve the situation.

“If we are strict, pilots will think more about it before making reckless maneuvers. I think it is useless to complain, we must sit down around a table and study a regulation which avoids situations like that of Sunday. »
