This Thursday August 26, 2021, Marc Márquez answered questions from journalists from the Silverstone circuit, ahead of the British Grand Prix.

We went to listen (via teleconferencing software) to the words of the Spanish driver, who is tackling a new round which will undoubtedly constitute a new physical test for his recovering shoulder.

As usual, we report here the words of Marc Márquez without the slightest formatting.

Marc, how do you approach this circuit made up of many fast turns on the right? Are you worried about your shoulder on this?

« No, I can't say that I'm worried because on Thursdays I'm always optimistic and I concentrate mainly on the settings of the bike. Right away I don't want to think about my shoulder, because I feel good there at the moment. I've been training well, including with the physiotherapist, so I'm just looking forward to the weekend. »

How do you prepare yourself before each session and before each race? How much time do you need to feel ready both mentally and physically, and are you following a specific diet?

« I have applied more or less the same strategy since I was in the World Championship. In this sense, I must say that I was very lucky to play before that in the Spanish championship in a very professional team. There, they had already taught me many things well, even if later you always adjust small things during your career. »

« But coming back to my preparation before the sessions, it doesn't last very long, around a quarter of an hour. The idea is mainly to warm up the muscles. Afterwards of course if you are injured it becomes totally different. From a mental point of view, what I usually do is watch Moto3 free practice. As soon as I watch this my mind starts to get going and I start to think carefully about my trajectories and what I am going to do in my category. »

« Finally, regarding diet, nothing exceptional to report: I eat pasta, bananas, chicken… Healthy things. But nothing in particular either, I don't have any secrets at this level. I would say the most important thing about a race weekend is to achieve a certain balance and feel comfortable: Doing things the best way possible. »

You recently met Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola. The latter declared that the most important thing for any athlete lies in the mind. Do you share the same opinion?

« We actually had a very nice moment with Pep. We talked a lot, two hours I would say. We talked about a lot of things, and of course it was very interesting because Pep teaches you a lot of stuff. One of the most interesting aspects of his work lies in the approach to the mind and how to approach the different situations that may arise. The important thing is to never think about what may have happened in the past and what people may say, what you need to do is focus on the present, because that's where you need to be. to give everything. And this is something very important mentally. You may start thinking about the past when you retire, but when you're in the thick of it, you have to stay focused on the present. »
