Enea Bastianini always seems like an outsider these days, no matter the conditions ; this status still sticks to him on the asphalt of Silverstone. With a very efficient Ducati, he climbed to fourth place in Practice, behind Pecco Bagnaia, Aleix Espargaro and, of course, Jorge Martin, the fastest of the day. The Italian is not giving up, because he knows full well that he can get back into the game at the world championship if he manages to build momentum in the second half of the season.
“Bestia” was not the fastest, but discreetly, he rose to fourth place, synonymous with direct passage to Q2. « A decidedly positive day, because I felt good from the morning with the basic settings. This afternoon we had a problem with the first bike and it cost us time, but I immediately managed to find the rhythm once back on track with second gear and I was fast » he declared. Indeed, we saw smoke emanating from his Desmosedici GP24, without further details.

However, a small error in strategy prevented him from trying the hard tires, which, according to Marco Bezzecchi, are those that best correspond to what the Ducati requires to operate. Bastianini is aware of this phenomenon. “It was important to try the hard tires at the front but in the end we didn't want to, even though the temperatures were suitable for this option, all things considered, we should have used it » he continued.
Finally, the place in Q2 is very encouraging, and he will try to aim for pole even if Martin has already placed himself as a formidable opponent. « However, I'm happy because we did a good job : we are in Q2 and tomorrow we will have to take another small step forward to be able to compete for a place on the front row” he concluded.
