MotoGP Silverstone J1, Jorge Martin (Ducati/1): “I was good at the beach, I didn’t necessarily want to come back”

Perfect day for Jorge Martin at Silverstone. Following his major disappointment at the Sachsenring in the final moments, he managed to erase this bad memory to come back even stronger. We knew, after the 2023 season, that the “Martinator” is not necessarily sensitive to bad dynamics, that he doesn't need to be in good posture to win. This is confirmed with his first two places in as many free practice sessions on British asphalt.

However, Jorge Martin was much better off on vacation rather than stressing over MotoGP. “I was of course the beach, I didn’t necessarily want to come back” he laughed at the microphones of speedweek. « But Silverstone is a very good place for a comeback, I love this track. This first place during Practice is the best way to get back to business. Even though we had some problems with the bike, I'm looking forward to the next few days » he asserted.

 

 

As Ducati announced, they will not stop fully supporting Martin in this year 2024, despite his defection to Aprilia in 2025. “For the last two years, I had installed a different part from the factory bikes on the brakes. Perhaps this was one of the causes of my falls.. I was allowed to test new equipment and I feel better, although I have some uncertainties. JI will continue to work with this bike whatever happens » he continued, fully confident.

As is often the case, he was closely followed by Marc Marquez, desperate for a wheel. We feel, through his words, that it was not to his taste. « I was his target, and when I cut, he did the same. It's difficult to do your fastest lap when you have such a good driver behind you. But it wasn't such a big problem, I feel much stronger than last year » he said.

 

 

At Aprilia, he will not be alone, far from it. Jorge Martin will take care to strip Ducati of some of its best elements. « For a long time, I have had a mechanic dedicated to the clutch, and that's why I get off to good starts. He will come with me. I will also take Daniele Romagnoli, the team leader, because I wanted someone who knows me or who knows the bike. It's the best way to go quickly » he concluded.
