Maverick Vinales Silverstone

Maverick Viñales failed to qualify for Q2 automatically, but knows what he needs to work on and remains optimistic for tomorrow.

After very good progress over several Grand Prix, Maverick Vinales a concluded the French GP with two top 5s in the sprint race and the main race two weeks ago, despite the difficult conditions on Sunday. This gives us hope for solid results again this weekend at Silverstone.

The Tech3 rider arrived with the desire to continue his momentum, and seemed to achieve this perfectly this morning during FP1 by finishing sixth in the session, and as is often the case, the best KTM rider. Things got a little more complicated this afternoon during Practice.

Outside the top 10 in the first 30 minutes, Casa Particular in Viñales had the situation under control as he fine-tuned his settings and worked on his race pace, as usual. Once the time attack began, he made his way into the top ten and remained there until the final four minutes.

The end of the session was extremely close, with 17 drivers within a second of each other. In these conditions, the Spaniard gave his all but failed to make it into the top 10 to automatically qualify for Q2. He finished 14th in the session and will therefore have to go through Q1 tomorrow.

"The feeling is pretty good, but we're missing a little something in braking. When you lean the bike, the rear tire feels like ice, so I lost a lot in that area today.", he said during his debriefing. "We're out of Q2, and Q1 is going to be extremely difficult tomorrow, but that's how you learn and progress. Overall, it was a positive day, the pace was decent, but we just weren't able to be precise enough under braking. We have a great challenge ahead of us this weekend!"
