Winner here last year, Aleix Espargaro is still going strong at Silverstone, exactly as we announced to you in a summary presentation of the British Grand Prix. The Aprilia official, even if he was very fast – especially in qualifying, which earned him pole position, was never able to compete with the first two Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin. No regrets, of course, because we must not forget that he is coming back from injury. After missing the Dutch Grand Prix and the entire weekend in Germany, he is back stronger than ever.
The future retiree had reason to be happy at the end of this Sprint, finishing in third place, his third podium in the short format this season after Qatar and Catalonia. « Tire choice influenced the race. I tried to gain experience for tomorrow but I wasn't comfortable. Enea Bastianini and Jorge Martin had stratospheric pace and I couldn't attack them. I ride hard here, it was a pleasure to ride this bike today” he said to the microphones of Sky Sports.
The Noale firm does not skimp on innovation, particularly with regard to aerodynamics. « The new aero makes the bike more agile, we hope that with more laps we can stay closer to the Ducati. I hope everyone takes the medium, so they will have a hard time! For me today it was not easy, in the first laps with the hard tires, I was afraid of losing the front because the steering was closing » he added. The RS-GP24 nevertheless remains very competitive.
For tomorrow, Aleix knows it will be difficult, especially because of Martin and Bastianini, of course, but also Pecco Bagnaia, who has always been strong on this track. Aleix is banking on a bolder choice of rubber, which was tested today. « Maybe for tomorrow we can change the settings and adjust the pressure ; we are the only ones who have used the hard way and we are better prepared. » he concluded.
