Alex Marquez

Alex Marquez is having a season at least as painful as that of his brother Marc in terms of falls while riding his Honda. The kind of successive facts which do not create confidence and which hurt both mentally and physically. At Silverstone, the bad series was expected to continue with two accidents on Friday and two very damaged RC213Vs. However, the light came from Sunday's race on which the younger Marquez wants to count before joining one of his favorite tracks: Aragon.

Alex Marquez qualified 17th but moved up to eighth in a British Grand Prix whose bitumen on its Silverstone route was dry. The performance is therefore first rate and the LCR driver is not the last to point this out: “ it was not bad, but starting from 17th place on the grid, it was not an easy race ", declared the young Marquez, who also encountered problems with the soft rear tire which cried out for mercy before the finish. A situation also experienced and explained by Pol Espargaro, fifth in the event under Repsol colors.

« We had chosen the right rear tire for us so that we could fight and overtake from the start. It was the right decision. By the time I was feeling good, I wasn't missing much to be in the group with both Ducati and Suzuki, and to protect the tires in the slipstream. So I pushed hard all the time, but too much for the rear tire. With about five laps to go, Binder and Lecuona passed me and it was almost impossible to keep up with them. Because my rear tire was finished. But that's what we expected » says the World Champion Moto3 et Moto2.

« Overall I'm happy » assures the teammate Nakagami at the end of this British Grand Prix. “ We didn't start well on Friday because I made two mistakes which cost us a lot of time. But the team reacted very well. They gave me a very good motorcycle. We have made a lot of progress and we stopped with a good feeling. This is the most important thing, we must be satisfied ».

Alex Marquez: “the improvements are small, but they are there”

And these good feelings, Alex Marquez wants to take them with him to the next stage which will take place in two weeks at MotorLand Aragón. A site where he found himself on the MotoGP podium last year. “ We come from three Grand Prix, two in Austria and one here at Silverstone, which feels like we've taken a step forward. We changed something on the bike, the improvements are small, but they are there », confirmed the LCR Honda pilot, who also warned: “ in today's MotoGP everything is so tight, a tenth of a second makes a big difference”.

« The most important thing for me was to get a good result at Silverstone in order to bring a good performance and a good feeling to Aragon, in order to have 100% confidence on the bike. We did it, I'm glad ", ended Alex Marquez. " It was great there last year, but a lot can change this year. Other manufacturers have improved a lot. We need to stay calm, not have particularly high expectations, just have a normal attitude. We have to work well all weekend, then we will see where we are on Sunday. But I'm very motivated to get there, I really like the track. I hope it will work well there again this year ».
