Like Brad Binder, Iker Lecuona and Valentino Rossi, Luca marini is one of those who pulled the plug during the last Austrian Grand Prix by choosing to stay on slick tires in the rain.

As a result, after starting from 17th position on the starting grid, the Sky VR46 Avintia rookie achieved his best result in MotoGP by crossing the finish line in fifth position after coming close to the podium.

Luca Marini: « I would say we were very close to making history, too bad about the ending but I'm happy. A weekend where we worked well since the first free practice sessions, the first half of the race in the dry, I was very fast. I was just struggling on the straight compared to the other drivers. Then with the rain I got smart, started calculating how much I would lose with the change and ultimately the decision to stay outside was the right one. The last lap was too rainy, I tried to defend myself from those who had wet tires and I was really close to the podium. I'm a little disappointed, but I'm satisfied because I was able to stay calm and make the right choice. »

It is in this motivated state of mind that the brother of Valentino Rossi presents himself for the first time on the demanding English circuit of Silverstone with the points zone and direct access to Q2 in his sights.

Luca Marini: “Silverstone is a complicated and complete circuit. I don't know how our Ducati will fit here, we have no data to begin with. It will be more difficult than in Austria, but we had two good weekends there and it will be extra motivation to do well. The weather is often uncertain, but we proved that we are fast even in these conditions. »

Reuben Xaus : « Silverstone is a beautiful circuit: A long straight and very hard braking. The weather is always complicated, but Luca has just obtained a good result in Austria in the wet. This Top 5 will be additional motivation to face the second part of the season better, and with more confidence. It's a circuit with no difference in altitude, so when braking, to keep the trajectories, it is important to find a perfect set up. »

With 27 points in the world championship standings, Luca Marini is in 20th position, just behind his brother who has 28: Enough to have fun at Silverstone with the family...
