Johann Zarco qualified on pole position after setting a new lap record at Silverstone. This is the second time since the start of the year, with Portugal, and for the eighth time in MotoGP, that he has commanded a starting grid, half as many as Fabio Quartararo (16 poles). He will try to achieve his first victory in the premier category, and thus stop his streak of the greatest number of top positions without a victory.
This is the third time since the return of Silverstone to the MotoGP calendar in 2010 (12 qualifying sessions) that a rider Honda is not in pole position, with Jorge Lorenzo at Yamaha in 2010 and Ducati in 2018. Marc Marquez (2014) is the last driver to qualify on pole at Silverstone and go on to win the race.
Maverick Vinales qualified in second position for his very first row since joining Aprilia and it is also his first appearance on the front row since Assen last year, where he was in pole position aboard a Yamaha before finishing the race in second position. Jack Miller qualified third for his third front row this season, after the Americas (where he finished P3) and France (where he finished P2). He will try to win for the first time since France last year.
Championship leader and winner last year at Silverstone, fabio quartararo qualified in fourth position. It is the first time he has failed to qualify on the front row since Italy this year, where he finished second from sixth on the grid. He will have to comply with a long lap penalty during the race.
Francis Bagnaia qualified in fifth position, which is the sixth time since the start of the season that he has failed to qualify among the top three. He will attempt to make it back-to-back MotoGP victories for the first time since Algarve/Valencia last year. Alex Espargaro, who suffered a highside during FP4, qualified in sixth position, which is the ninth time in 12 qualifying sessions this year that he has been in the top 6. He will try to move up to the podium for the second consecutive time at Silverstone.
After going through Q1, Marco Bezzecchi qualified in seventh position, which is the fifth time in his rookie season that he has qualified on the top three rows. He will be aiming for his first consecutive MotoGP podiums. Enea Bastianini, who also made it through Q1, qualified in eighth position, his best result since his fifth place in France earlier this year on his bike, as he was on the verge of his most recent victory and his most recent podium.
George Martin, who crashed on the first lap last year at Silverstone after a collision with Marc Marquez, qualified in ninth position, his worst qualification since Italy this year, where he qualified in 11th position before starting from 14th place. He will try to get on the podium for the first time since Catalonia where he was P2.
Winner in 2019 and on the podium last year at Silverstone, alex rins qualified 11th as the best Suzuki rider, but this was his worst qualifying result in his five appearances at Silverstone in MotoGP.
Alex Marquez is the best Honda driver after qualifying in 17th position. This is the first time that no Honda driver has been in the top 16 in premier class qualifying at Silverstone since 1980.
