The 10th stage of the World Championship MotoGP , the British Grand Prix on the Silverstone circuit, presented us with a Sprint which somewhat reshuffled the cards, the two main contenders for the title now being separated by only 1 point, while the 3rd place changed ownership. A look back at this brief but intense confrontation…
When the lights go out, it's a fantastic start to Francis Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) which pushed the pole sitter and new lap record holder off Alex Espargaro (Aprilia Racing) entering turn 1. The melee is immediately confused at the front and Jorge Martin (Prima Pramac Racing) manages to sneak past and take the lead in the Sprint on the first lap at Silverstone.
Behind it is the drama: Franco Morbidelli (Prima Pramac Racing) and Marco Bezzecchi (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team) hooked up on the first lap and crashed, after the leader missed his braking at turn 1. Franco Morbidelli receives a double penalty for a long lap to be served this Sunday.
The fight for the top 5 experienced renewed intensity when Peter Acosta (Red Bull GASGAS Tech3) and Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) collided, without damage to either, but with a shower of wing confetti. The attachment is also sufficient to allow Marc Marquez (Gresini Racing MotoGP™) to open the door and overtake both riders, without needing a second opportunity.
In the front, George Martin continues to lead the way Enea Bastianini, the Italian clinging to the saddle of #89 whileAlex Espargaro et Francis Bagnaia follow at a short distance and observe the duo.
The first major event in the fight for the title then occurs, Francis Bagnaia losing the front on lap 5, in turn #4.

The driver escapes unscathed, but the Italian is forced to watch his teammate from the sidelines Enea Bastianini who starts to harass Jorge Martin. Alex Espargaro is freed from the pressure of having the reigning champion on his heels, and with Jorge Martin still in the lead, number 1 seems to have lost the lead in the championship.
However, after a failed attempt which saw Jorge Martin fighting back immediately, “Bestia” then sneaked into the lead on lap 6 and tried to escape almost instantly. The #23 set a string of impressive times in the 1'58 range with a handful of laps remaining, gaining some space but Martin still staying in contact. The potential victory ofEnea Bastianini then reduced the lead of Francis Bagnaia on George Martin in the fight for the title.
Then, a new twist in the upper echelons of the rankings: Marc Marquez lost the front at turn #16.
Losing some valuable points when 4th place seemed secure 💥

This ended the Spaniard's chance of gaining vital championship points, as he retired in the pitlane, leaving a KTM-GASGAS battle for fourth and likely on the verge of dropping out of the top 3 in the standings , given that Enea Bastianini now stood at the head of the pack.
With one lap to go, all that was happening was perfection.Enea Bastianini. The #23 increased his lead from a handful of tenths to a second and that's how he took his first Sprint victory at Silverstone. George Martin nevertheless consolidated his second place, regaining crucial championship points to find himself a length of Francis Bagnaia. Behind him, Enea Bastianini now occupies 3rd place.
The battle between Brad Binder et Pedro Acosta did not stop and the two men continued to battle until the finish line, with the South African ahead of the rookie for 4th place after the 10 laps. Alex Marquez took sixth place, after hanging on but unable to gain the upper hand over the other two. Jack Miller (Red Bull KTM Factory Racing) crossed the finish line just 0,185 seconds ahead of Maverick Vinales (Aprilia Racing) and Fabio DiGiannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46 Racing Team), the latter having won the final point on Saturday.
Championship standings after the Sprint:
All eyes now turn to the British Grand Prix, where Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez will try to redeem themselves and where Jorge Martin will try to take the lead in the title race.
