Pedro Acosta, 10th in the 2025 Spanish Grand Prix Sprint at Jerez, embodies KTM's hopes and frustrations. The brand's top rider alongside Maverick Viñales (7th), the 20-year-old Murcian, 8th in pre-qualifying, has mixed feelings. Despite an increased presence in the top 10, KTM, dominated by the Ducatis of Marc Marquez (winner) and Alex Marquez (2nd), is still far from the mark.
KTM is making progress, but Peter Acosta remains lucid: the road to the top of MotoGP is still long. This Saturday in Jerez, despite a reinforced presence of KTM in the Top 10 with Maverick Vinales seventh and Peter Acosta tenth, the Murcian driver did not hide a bittersweet feeling after the Sprint race.
« Of course, we expected better, but in the end, we must continue to work, to understand things ", told Acosta. " Many things are beyond our control, like the reasons why things have changed so much since qualifying. We need to keep working on that. »
While he acknowledges the progress, Pedro also underlines the growing importance of Maverick Vinales within the project KTM. " Anyone who goes fast on our bike is a good sign. The problems are quite similar to ours, to Maverick's. In a way, his position in the ranking is an asset, even if it takes time to progress »
The young prodigy does not hesitate to listen attentively to his experienced teammate: " Maverick has a lot of experience, more than anyone in the team. He has experienced MotoGP without the modern equipment. I think you have to listen to it often, it gives hope. »
Pedro Acosta: “ This is the most frustrating time of my life, not just in the last five years. »
Regarding the long race on Sunday, Acosta remain careful: tomorrow it might be a surpriseWe hope the medium tire will help us limit some vibrations. It will be a long race for everyone. »
It also projects towards the Monday's key test : " I don't know what they'll bring us, but Monday is an important day. Let's start with Sunday.. »
But Pedro does not avoid reality: " This is the most frustrating time of my life, not just in the last five years.. It's not easy to be so limited. But we must continue to work »
Aware that last year everything seemed simpler, Acosta recognize : " The problem is that last year everything went very well. This year it's different. When there is no clear path, it is the most frustrating »
Despite the obstacles, Peter Acosta keep a cool head and determination intact. At KTM, we hope that the talented Murcian will soon find the royal path he deserves.
