During the Spanish Grand Prix, Monster Yamaha Team riders Fabio Quartararo and Alex Rins experienced significant difficulties with their Yamaha M1, a bike once praised for its handling but which today appears to have lost of its superb. Both riders reported problems with compartment syndrome, exacerbated by the need to fight the bike to keep it on the desired trajectory around the turbulent Jerez circuit.

fabio quartararo, particularly, suffered on Sunday, despite a spectacular recovery during the Sprint Race the day before, which saw him move from 23rd to 3rd place before a penalty for insufficient tire pressure demoted him. “ It was a really grueling race. We are seriously lacking in rear grip and cornering ability. Hopefully during tomorrow's testing we can make some beneficial changes ", told Quarterly. The Frenchman, who previously had to undergo surgery for a similar problem in 2021, expressed his inability to maintain a sustained pace due to arm pain.

alex rins, his teammate, also experienced similar problems, although he managed to finish ahead Quarterly, thus inheriting 13th place. “ It was difficult to start last, but we recovered some positions. I observed that Fabio had a compartment syndrome problem, just like me, and I managed to surpass him ", has explained Kidneys, who noted an improvement compared to his starting position.

Massimo Meregalli, team director Monster Yamaha, acknowledged the challenges faced by its riders, attributing some of the problems to the “heaviness” of the bike, which requires more physical riding in low-grip conditions. “ It was a very demanding race for them, especially in the last part of the distance. We still have a lot of work to do, so it's good to have a testing day tomorrow to try new things and use the data we collected this weekend ", he added.

Hope remains for the team to find solutions during post-race testing, where they plan to test new aerodynamic components, an updated chassis and electronic adjustments, in hopes of resolving the issues plaguing their performance and comfort when racing.
