Although he regularly flirted with the top 10 last week in Sepang, Miguel Oliveira started the two days of testing organized on the Buriram circuit in a much less encouraging manner. The day was generally complicated for most of the Yamaha riders, but the Pramac rider, like his teammates, remains hopeful for the future.
Miguel Oliveira finished the first day of testing at Sepang in sixteenth position. With a time of 1:30.738, the number 88 was the last Yamaha rider in the standings, seven tenths behind his garage neighbour at Pramac, Jack Miller, who was the first representative of the Iwata factory.
In Sepang, things went well, and the experience gained during the Shakedown helped. In Buriram, on a circuit with diametrically different characteristics, and with other tires, things got complicated. Despite everything, some encouraging observations could be made by each of the four representatives of the Japanese factory.
“I had a hectic afternoon with some problems, not everything went well in the runs, but in the end we were able to gain time, the Portuguese rejoices despite his disappointment. I tried to be a little bit more in the right place for tomorrow's start. The track improved and the conditions were better for our bike, but we still have a lot of work to do."
Nevertheless, Oliveira, like the other Yamaha riders, believes that the second day of action in Thailand will allow them to find their marks to display a higher level of competitiveness. Miguel Oliveira will focus in particular on the behavior of his M1 with worn tires.
"Nevertheless, I think we are relatively competitive for the start of the race, he continues enthusiastically. Although we have to work to find a good rhythm with the used tires.
It remains to be seen whether Yamaha can exploit this margin of improvement on what will be the final day of pre-season testing for the 2025 MotoGP campaign.
