Marc Marquez Catalonia

It is common knowledge that Marc Marquez is still very far from the physical form he displayed during his time of splendor, before his terrible accident in Jerez in July 2020. And all the more so since he is the first to, not only say it, but also repeat it. That being said, despite his repeated falls since his return to competition, he sees encouraging phases for a bright future, like the first seven laps, but also the last for him, of the Catalan Grand Prix. On the same Montmelo route a test was organized this Monday. Was he going to stay at rest? This is what we expected. But instead, he lined up 87 laps taking care of three Hondas…

Hard training, easy war goes the saying. Marc Marquez apparently only asks to verify it in view of his self-sacrifice in filing down the Montmelo track on Monday during the MotoGP tests which succeeded the Grand Prix of Catalonia. Of course, next weekend is a break, but the official Honda took it in his arms until the next meeting on the Sachsenring, one of his two secret gardens with that of Austin…

But before heading towards Germany, we had to put an end to Catalonia… “ I'm destroyed! I'm very tired, I suffered, but I needed a day like this, to ride a lot » comments the eight-time world champion. “ I tried a few things, but mostly I worked on myself to ride better. I did as many laps as possible. At first I had a little trouble, then it got better. I couldn't push 100%, but at the same time it was an important day to check my physical condition ».

Marc Marquez and his black motorcycle to see more clearly

So much for the man. And the Honda ? Because given the results, it also needs a lot of driving... Marc Marquez worked on three motorcycles, with particular attention to one with a raw carbon fiber fairing… “ We tried new aerodynamics, since we still have the possibility of doing homologation. I felt some small differences, maybe the new solution can be useful on some circuits. The black bike has had several big changes from this year's machine, but it's not a prototype. Let's say it's similar to something I've tried before, where we need to figure out the path forward. We will come back to this during the Misano tests ».

The Spaniard keeps absolute confidentiality on the differences compared to the RC213 equipped this season. However, he specifies: “ the engine is the same but there are significant changes in the general balance. These are not just minor changes, but something that allowed me to ride better than on Sunday. This is the positive side of these tests ».
