Fabio Quartararo played it safe after trying the new engine brought by Yamaha, but admitted that it seemed to him " Well ".
It was one of the most scrutinized new features during the official test that took place this Monday at the Jerez circuit: Yamaha had made an engine upgrade, without yet switching to the V4, the testing of which is still ongoing. This new feature seemed to work as soon as the two official riders entered the track, since both fabio quartararo that Álex Rins were at the top of the timesheets throughout the day.
"For me, it's a day when times mean nothing.", counterbalanced Fabio Quartararo near GP One. “There was already a lot of wind and the track had a lot of rubber. I wanted to finish early, because if you wait until 17:30 p.m., when the temperatures drop, you can set a good time, but it’s not really positive because, when you go to another track, you feel that the grip is not as good. We finished the day at 15 p.m., when the temperatures are very high, and we drove in 1:36 without pushing too hard, because I didn’t want to make any mistakes and fall.”
If Alex Rins did not hesitate to highlight the strong points of this engine evolution, the Frenchman preferred to play it safe, while recognizing that the engine had indeed shown some good things. "It was a good day, but I think this year we are too optimistic about the tests.", he added.
"I think it still takes a little time to take advantage of this engine." fabio quartararo
"For me it was simply a training day to try out the new engine. I don't want to consider myself happy or not. It was a good day because the pace was good, especially this morning, where we regularly rode in 1'36s. The straight here is very short, but the most important thing was to have the same agility with the new engine as with the standard one. We have to make adjustments, but the feeling is pretty good. I think we still need a little time to get the most out of this engine, but there are positive aspects and I think it's good."
"The top speed depends on the new engine, but for me it's a little bit affected by the way you exit the previous corner and the fact that there was a lot of grip, which helped us. We'll see. I think the best way to see the reality is to try it out on a race weekend."
And that's what will happen at the French Grand Prix next week. Quarterly confirmed that he and Rins will be driving it with this engine.
