Jack Miller was also able to try out the engine upgrades brought by Yamaha during the test, and confirmed the feelings of the official riders.
The presence of an engine upgrade brought by Yamaha was one of the most scrutinized things during the MotoGP test held in Jerez this Monday. While Alex Rins was very optimistic, Fabio Quartararo displayed more caution, even though he recognized potential.
The two official pilots are not the only ones to have tried it, since in the satellite team Pramac, Jack Miller and Augusto Fernandez also rode with this new engine. It turns out that everyone was unanimous, even though, once again, the track conditions were very favorable on Monday with plenty of grip.
"We tried it, and I'm very happy with it. They basically gave us what we asked for. Of course, as a driver you always want more, but they met our demands. It seems really solid.", said Jack Miller near crash.net. "These Monday tests are always a bit strange because there's so much rubber on the asphalt that the track conditions are unreal. You don't really look for set-ups, you just try to get a feel for parts or ideas, ignore what's around you and don't look at the screens too much."
"It would have been hard not to be under 1'38, it was going so well, so we have to take it with a pinch of salt, keep a cool head and keep working. That's what we did today and we're really happy with the progress."
The Australian finished 13th with a best time of 1:36, and took the positives from the day. It's hard to say at this point whether Yamaha will bring this new engine to the French Grand Prix next week, but that seems to be the goal.
“It was a good day for us. This test is obviously important and represents a good opportunity for us to try the bike and understand things that we don’t necessarily have time to cover during a race weekend. We had a few elements to test, some really interesting things brought from the factory. I’m very happy with the progress of the bike and I’m looking forward to riding at Le Mans.”, Miller concluded.
