Since the first day of the Grand Prix weekend at Silverstone, Franco Morbidelli has found a smile again and admits unambiguously that his renewed performance comes from the study of his teammate Fabio Quartararo's data.

The Italian driver explains: “We have identified our problems and we are working on them. We know what we're missing but it doesn't seem easy to solve. The main problem is my confidence with the back, which is not yet at the level of Fabio's. The bikes are the same and I looked at his data: he takes corners faster and has more confidence than me, he lifts the wheels less when accelerating and braking. »

The number 21 therefore took it upon himself to apply this driving style favoring the speed of passing curves and, after finishing 5th at Silverstone, this seemed to bear fruit at Misano where the Petronas driver almost equaled the time of his teammate, finishing 2nd in the general classification on the first day.

Franco Morbidelli : “yes, it was a good day. We worked on the settings and overall we improved the settings. And in the end, we were rather quick and we were also closer to Fabio in the time trial, which is very encouraging. Overall that's it, but I think tomorrow we will fine-tune something else to progress a bit and try to have a good pace as well as choose which direction to go regarding the tires: find out which one could be the one which will race, perhaps between the soft and the medium. »

Observing your teammate's data is a completely normal thing, and the emulation between the two riders of the Petronas Yamaha SRT team will surely give us great things...
