With the third final time of this first day of testing at Sepang, just behind the two Yamaha Petronas, the Suzuki rider showed his form as well as that of his brand new GSX-RR, whose first advances seem to be working, notably a new aerodynamic package with the addition of fins.

With no less than 56 laps completed and a best time which brings him to two tenths of Fabio Quartararo, the fastest on the track, Alex Rins had every reason to be satisfied at the end of this first day of official tests: “It’s been a great day! I'm really excited and happy to be back on the bike, I really missed it during the winter. »

The working day was cut short by rain, which prevented the platform from rolling for almost two hours and caused “change plans” teams, it was nevertheless important “so engineers can gather more information”, explained Rins, who had a day equivalent to last year. At the end of the first day of testing in 2019, on the same Sepang track, he had in fact finished second, also two tenths behind Marc Márquez this time.

“Today I spent quite a bit of time on the fairing, and tried out some new variations of the package”, He said. “I found a configuration that I like, so we've reached a milestone and I'm happy with it. Tomorrow we will work on the electronics and the chassis. We are using the same engine as during the end-of-year tests and the feeling is still as positive. These days are important to see more clearly. We need to know what works and what doesn't. »
