This Saturday, February 5, 2022, Raúl Fernández answered questions from journalists from the Sepang circuit in Malaysia, following the first of two days of IRTA testing marking the real start of the 2022 season.

We went to listen (via teleconferencing software) to the words of the Spanish driver, who finished the day in 13th place.

As usual, we report here the words of Raúl Fernández without the slightest formatting, even if it is partially translated from English.

Raúl, you achieved a really impressive time today compared to the other KTM riders. Did you feel like you had just put in a real performance?

« Yes, but I have to say that the work we did today was in itself more important than the times. I worked a lot on myself, and during each of my outings I progressed a little. I also felt much more comfortable than during the shakedown. I had a good time but it was just to try the two types of tires [the medium and the soft]. We must continue to work like this tomorrow. »

You have progressed since the shakedown. In which area have you improved the most?

« In all areas, because day after day I manage to ride the bike in a more relaxed way, and when you manage to do that your sensations are better. Right away I'm really in this phase where I try to be as relaxed as possible on the machine so that I can take care of myself physically. »

“I try to be as relaxed as possible on the machine”

At the moment are you focusing exclusively on your riding or are you already starting to work on the settings with KTM?

« I'm really focused on myself, because if I start wanting to change the bike when I don't fully understand it, there's no chance of us progressing. »

What is your main difficulty at the moment?

« I don't have any particular problem, but I have to try to progress in all areas step by step. »
