The first day of the MotoGP test at Sepang ended with the following rankings:

Sepang

Concerning top speeds, a particularly sensitive subject for Yamaha, the official MotoGP.com website publishes the table summarizing the five best top speeds for each rider and the average generated.

We see that, as usual, the Ducatis take the king's share, monopolizing the first places with top speeds of between 336 and 334 km/h, for averages extending between 334 and 332 km/h.
Then comes the Yamaha M1 of fabio quartararo which, with a peak of 334 and an average of 331, no longer concedes much to the machines of Borgo Panigale...

Unquestionably, Iwata's in-line four-cylinder has progressed somewhat and is getting closer to the Ducati, but the reduction in the gap which separates the Desmosedici from the M1 can certainly be attributed to the proven progression of 2 km/h of the Japanese engine. , but also to the reduction of 1 km/h of the fastest Ducati compared to that of Jack Miller the same day last year, recorded at 337,5 km/h.

Is there more aerodynamic downforce on the Ducatis this year or is it just a very temporary artifact? The peak speeds which will be reached on Saturday and Sunday will give us a first idea…
